It is interesting to collect at the farm for
breeders that are far away from A.I. centers, for breedings of more than
500 sows, for breeders that want to use 3 A.I. doses per sow and for
breeders that are aware of the savings that they can make.
One condition : you have to do it right (building
a laboratory, collection room, boar lodging) and allow at least 3/4 of an
hour per collected boar per person. It costs about $1 to $1,50 CAN per
bottle for the necessary products to make semen and about $0,75 to $1 CAN
per bottle for genetics and about $1 to $1,50 CAN per bottle for feed,
labor and depreciation of equipment and purchase of laboratory
equipment.
